New semester. New modules. Today was Spirits, Beer and Cider. Yes, I know – it sounds a little less serious than most of my other modules, but heh! why not?
As a finale to this first session we had a practical demonstration of distillation.
A couple of bottles of Pinot grigio yielded a hip-flask sized volume of pretty unappealing fiery liquid, the first smell of which was a real kick in the nose – I guess this was some very volatile nasties coming off since it died away in 10 minutes. I’m not sure I’ll be investing the £200 for one of these pot-stills at home. A fine demonstration, though!
